Do you ever need a break and just want to spend time off campus with your friends? The University is located in the heart of the city of Scranton with so many great places to visit and fun things to do. Here are just a few:
- Nay Aug Park: Just up the street from campus, Nay Aug is a beautiful place to take a walk or go for a run. The park also has a picnic area and several hiking trails. It is a great place to spend the day with friends when the weather is nice and you want to get off campus for the day.
- Steamtown Mall: Located in downtown Scranton, the Steamtown Mall is a short 10-minute walk from campus. It has several great stores, including American Eagle, Wet Seal, Boscov’s and many others. Also located on the second floor of the mall is the Timmy’s Town Museum for Children, where I will be performing my service learning hours this semester. Located downtown are also several restaurants, including Kildare’s (my favorite), Cooper’s Seafood, Osaka Hibachi Steakhouse, and many others.
- Lackawanna County Coal Mine: A famous coalmine located nearby offers a tour that will take you 300 feet underground to experience the blackness and chill of old-time mines. This is a must see and do for anyone in the Scranton area. Take a visit with your friends one day you’re feeling adventurous. I promise you won’t be sorry you did.
These are just some of the many attractions, sites, and things to do in the Scranton area. Although the campus is always offering fun programs and activities, it’s always nice to spend a day with your friends taking a break from the stress of schoolwork. I hope you take advantage of these great things that the city of Scranton has to offer.
